Product Overview
An orthopedic cast, or simply cast, is a shell, frequently made from plaster or fiberglass, that encases a limb to stabilize and hold anatomical structures—most often a broken bone, in place until healing is confirmed. It is similar in function to a splint.
Synthetic cast:- Synthetic orthopaedic casting tape is made of knitted fiberglass or polyester substrate impregnated with water-activating polyurethane resin. These are wrapped around the injury over a stockinette and cotton padding. Synthetic casts can be different colors. A synthetic cast is lighter than plaster. It dries in a few minutes, but may take a few hours to harden fully. Synthetic stockinettes and padding are also available. These can get wet for bathing or swimming. The fabric is extensible in all directions, which makes it very comfortable in use. Exposure to any moisture will cause the tape to become rigid. Synthetic cast has good conformability and mouldability making it an ideal casting tape for most orthopaedic applications where rigid immobilisation is required, including fresh or unstable fracture.
